Adopted by the Security Council on March 22, 1979, this resolution states that the establishment of settlements by Israel in the occupied Arab territories since 1967 has no legal validity and constitute a serious obstruction to achieving a comprehensive, fair and lasting peace in the Middle East. Also calls upon Israel to ensure that, as the occupying power, to abide scrupulously by the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, rescind its previous measures and to desist from taking any action that causes the change of legal status and geographical nature and demographic composition significantly affect the Arab territories occupied since 1967, including Jerusalem, and in particular, does not move parts of its own civilian population into the occupied Arab territories.
